From tackling complex infrastructure challenges to everyday life with the team in the London office, this is an inside look at the people behind evroc’s Compute Team.
What is the Compute Team focused on right now?
Currently, we’re working hard to enable multi-zone capabilities, giving our customers the ability to provision VMs across several zones. That involves solving some interesting architectural challenges and has also created an opportunity to make significant improvements to our networking stack. It’s a big project with lots of moving parts, and it’s exciting to be getting close to the finish line.”
The work sounds varied, can you walk us through a typical week?
This week, we’ve been working on our new networking stack, focusing on improving the availability and performance of customer networking. That means deploying the solution into a new environment, running integration tests, checking connectivity to test VMs, and debugging timeouts and unexpected behavior. We work closely together and pair when things aren’t obvious, which makes it easier to test ideas and move forward. By the end of the week, we had the new stack working- it’s always exciting to see something that started as a prototype months ago fully implemented and running.

What makes being part of the evroc Compute Team different from other companies you’ve worked at?
“There’s a really enjoyable energy in the Compute Team. We work hard and care deeply about what we’re building, but there’s also a real light-heartedness to the atmosphere. The team itself is what makes the difference we've got a good mix of people, from those who love working close to the metal and obsessing over the details, to those who naturally zoom out and think about what's coming next. What we tend to have in common is a self-starter attitude: people are comfortable taking a problem, running with it, and figuring out what ‘great’ looks like.”
What brings the London team together outside of day-to-day work?
There's a lot going on in the London office. We have a Monday lunchtime run club around Hyde Park that goes ahead rain or shine, and we’ve recently started a London Book Club — currently reading A Gentleman in Moscow for discussion in the new year. There are monthly team lunches and the occasional post-work pub visit. When summer rolls around, you'll usually find us up on the roof terrace at lunchtime, making the most of whatever sun we can get.
Looking ahead, what are you most excited about?
We’re really looking forward to seeing several big projects across the Infrastructure, Platform, and Product teams come together. The multi-zone work has involved close collaboration across teams, so it’s exciting to see all the pieces start to fall into place. We think we’ll have a lot to celebrate this year.
