STOCKHOLM – November 28, 2023 — evroc is excited to announce that it has selected Stockholm as the location for its flagship data center. The company and Arlandastad Group today presented a letter of intent for the center to be built during 2024.
evroc plans to invest EUR 600 million over the coming years to develop the flagship data center. Serving as a scaling platform for Europe’s first hyperscale cloud, the center represents a critical milestone on the company’s path to operating ten sustainable hyperscale data centers across Europe by 2030.
evroc’s ambition is further to establish the facility as the epicenter for AI in Europe. At full capacity, the flagship data center has been designed to contain 16,000 GPUs, more than can be found at any other single location anywhere in Europe.
Mattias Åström, evroc founder and CEO: “Today, Europe is entering a new era for cloud and the next phase of the AI revolution. We want this flagship center to become a landmark for sustainability, technology, and architecture.”
evroc and Arlandastad Group has signed an LOI with the intention to own and develop the property through a joint venture. The agreement establishes the flagship data center in a location next to Stockholm Arlanda Airport. evroc selected the fast-growing innovation hub Arlandastad due to its strategic location between Stockholm City and Sweden’s biggest airport and availability of fossil free energy to power the center.
Dieter Sand, Arlandastad Group CEO: “evroc is an exciting company with a strong focus on sustainable development. We are pleased with the opportunity to jointly own and develop a property with evroc, which will attract global attention and become a new landmark for Stockholm with its architectural design. We are delighted that evroc has chosen Arlandastad and look forward to the next steps in our collaboration.”
Data centers have until now had a significant environmental footprint, accounting for 2.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Unburdened by legacy architecture, evroc will build the world’s cleanest cloud, re-designing the cloud from the ground-up with a focus on embedding AI and sustainability into every aspect. This includes the building, the physical infrastructure, the power supply, reuse of excess heat, the IT infrastructure, the operating system, platforms and applications.
Mattias Åström: “For far too long, Europe’s digital infrastructure, including AI, has been dominated by American hyperscale cloud companies. We are determined to disrupt the current order. Our flagship data center marks a key milestone for evroc to power a digital Europe.”
